What I will be doing in 2018

Everyone has got a list of New Year resolutions that they write but may not end up following. With this, we’re writing resolutions in a way that we get them done by the year end - find out how to be your best in 2018.

I have a white board back home which for the past three months has had only one thing, a grid of dates and weeks which lasted till the very end of December and was titled “THE ROAD TO 2018”. In this board I’ve marked all the things I have to do or complete before 2017 ends, because I didn’t want to enter 2018 with any of the commitments of 2017. But why though?

You see, for some reason, I think 2018 is going to be the best year of my life yet. I have lots of stuff I want to do in 2018 but that’s the problem, it’s just a fuzzy list of “stuff I want to do”.

I think, in order to achive anything, you should have a clearly written goal and work on achieving that goal everyday.

So here is my list of…. wait,

But having goals can be also deceptive, just see how many people have ‘New Year Resolutions’ and see how many of those succeed. These New Year resolutions typically follow stuff like ‘I will lose weight’, ‘I will run everyday’, ‘I will quit bingewatching TV’. While these are good goals to have, these would last for like say 2 weeks.

These are all spur off the moment motivational crap - while these may excite your inner self for the moment, it won’t be useful for the long term. What you need is DISCIPLINE, nothing can beat discipline and persistence.

If you want to run daily, don’t just say ‘Iwould like to run daily in 2018’, instead say this,

I WOULD HAVE ran daily in 2018, in 2 months I would participate in the Half 2k Marathon and in 6 months I would have participated in at least 4 Marathons.

Dosen’t that have a better ring to it? The trick is to have a clear cut goal that is achievable and somewhat difficult. By defining this you would have put your brain on the spot, it will constantly think about ways to achieve the goal.

And don’t write anything in the future, write every goal as though you have already achived it somehow and it is just waiting to happen. This will help you enormously as your mind would have become ready to tackle the obstacles when the time comes.

Write more. More blog posts, more reminders, more code, more texts to close friends and family.

These are just some of the goals that I will achieve in the coming year, I may succeed or fail in this quest but I will always strive to achieve my maximum potential every-time.
